Blogging Block
I’m not feeling the inspiration this weekend. Usually I know what I’m going to blog about well in advance of putting finger to i-pad. Occasionally I start tapping away before I have any idea what I want to talk about and it just flows. Often my only challenge is finding the time to do it. But I’m having a ‘I’ve not got anything interesting to say’ days. And anyway who wants to hear about my fat loss, my training, my retirement plans or my bucket list.
I’m probably feeling a little bereft now that my ‘60 for 60’ is over. Doing that always gave me something to write about. I need to start drafting my ‘70 for 70’ plans.
I probably sound a little sorry for myself. I’m not feeling 100%. Just a bit of a bug which has meant a cancelled HITT class, a no show at Parkrun and a poor result at the anticoagulant clinic on Friday meaning I’m back to weekly blood tests until my warfarin dosage stabilises.
So what does a blogger do when they struggle to find something to write about or start doubting that they have anything relevant to say.
So I did what I would always to. I googled it. Believe it or not ‘bloggers blog’ is a thing. So a lot of advice on what to do. Some fairly obvious. Do something different. Others a bit more obscure. Cooking. I suppose cooking at leisure can free up your mind to wander. Maybe I’ll try it this afternoon. My husband will be delighted. Not that I’m a great cook. Just that I usually only venture into the kitchen to visit the coffee machine.
What I have to remember is that these posts are targeting bloggers that are doing it for a living and therefore can devote their time to unblocking the block. They may starve if they don’t. My blog is just a passion. It is part of my life. It has got me through some difficult times of my life, helped me celebrate others and spurned me on to different things. I don’t need to write it. I just want to.
It would be great to have someone to share the joys and woes but out of the millions of bloggers in the world I personally know less than a handful and all but one blogs about their profession which I have little interest in doing.
There are huge advantages in having someone who understands the joys and challenges in pursuing a passion. I know a number of people that love weight training. And I do enjoy a chat comparing PBs. I train with my daughter who doesn’t have the same passion. She just enjoys the effect a 205kg leg press has on her derrière.
So if any of my friends and family are thinking of starting a blog let’s chat.
Finally, one suggestion to unclog the block is to revisit past blogs. So I have looked at the blogs with the most views for each year I have been blogging. The featured image is a montage of those that came before. So here they are:
2015 A Change of Direction. Four months after setting up my blog I move from its initial objective of sharing my love of fitness to having to deal with a serious heart condition.
2016 You’re My Best Friend. A tribute to my best friend who died of cancer just over a year from diagnosis.
2017 I’m Not A Patient. An altercation with a health professional who suggested that I should only do moderate exercise as I would wear my body out.
2018 Exercise and Mental Health. The benefits of exercise to our mental wellbeing.
2019 My Sixtieth Year (Week 41 & 42). Not a great start to 2019.
Fingers crossed that the creative juices start flowing.
